The data scientist is a specialist in the execution of advanced analytical techniques to (big) data. His or her field of activity is statistics and data analysis. The data scientist can have an executive role, but can also have an advisory and influencing role on the application of data analyzes in the business process. The data scientist analyzes data from both internal data sources and external data sources and analyzes data from both structured data sources and unstructured data sources and every form in between. The data scientist has strong statistical knowledge but also some knowledge of ICT such as networks, databases and REST APIs. In addition, the data scientist also has knowledge of one or more business domains. Finally, the data scientist has the skills to communicate the results of the data analyzes with both business employees and IT employees. The data scientist translates abstract questions about the data into concrete solutions. The data scientist uses techniques such as: data mining, natural language processing, data profiling, text mining, semantics, artificial intelligence and data visualization. The data scientist invents and develops new complex data mining algorithms and machine learning algorithms and is responsible for research, design, prototyping and support of applications for data science applications.
